Who Am I?

I am James Anderson, the Interim Leader for the Green Party of Alberta (GPA) since mid December (2026), and I have been working hard with our small crew of very dedicated and amazing volunteers to keep the spirit of this Party alive.

I have always had an interest in government policy and concerned myself with how it should be wielded for the benefit of all Albertans. At a young age, I have made it my life mission to always lead with Integrity, Courage, Excellence, and Inclusion. As a young non-binary transgender (MTF) adult, I am conscious of the current challenges that young and/or 2SLGTBQI+ Albertans face. Which is why I continuously promote policy and provide support for said groups.

Before entering provincial politics, I've been employed for 7 years as an intelligence professional with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). In addition, I have past experience working for Family and Community Support Services (FCSS). As a teenager, I have served on the GPA Young Greens Council, and supported my mother who ran as a candidate in the Alberta election of 2015. It was during this time that members of the GPA showed me genuine respect and care for the politics I have demonstrated at a young age, and it has left a lasting impression that has inspired me to support the GPA ever since.

My Involvement with the Green Party of Alberta

As a teenager I remember my first time meeting with the Green Party of Alberta during its AGM. Admittedly, I joined my mother to this event because I was originally just a bored teen, however what was unknown to me at this moment is that it would eventually leave a permanent inspirational impression upon me. Unlike any other institution or organization I have ever known, the Green Party of Alberta took a genuine interest in me and my political thoughts even despite how exceptionally young I was at the time. I have fond memories of our former Party Leader Janet Keeping who not only took the time to listen to me when I was young, but also served as my first role model of a woman with integrity in a position of political authority. Prior to this special experience, I had thought young persons are destined to never receive representation and that their voices would always be ignored. But gratefully this Party proved me wrong and has given me a glimpse into what is possible for folks such as myself.

Because I wish to return the favor to the Green Party of Alberta, I have been dedicating many volunteering hours (sometimes daily) over the course of eight months to rebuild and prepare our Party to become once again to be politically active. During my last roughly four months as the Interim Leader I have been hard at work leading and developing initiatives in collaboration with the Executive Council and committees, which I have listed here.
